With it's penchant for vistas of sound and yearning for imaginary landscapes, electronic music carries perhaps the most developed sense of the visual aesthetic of all musical genres. 'Inside' is essentailly a collection of soundtracks looking for a movie to call home. The reflective echoed piano of 'Euthanism' and 'Porphyria' create an ironic, detached feel, reminiscent of fim noir; the hushed tones of 'Creston' and 'Loins and Lace' drift forward in Tarkovskian time frames; while the rolling arpeggios of 'Syrup and Sand' recall the more kinetic film works of Tangerine Dream. It's a multiplex in sound: unfortunately, it's only showing old films.

Noch ruhiger und entspannter (was nicht zum Trugschluß "belangloser" führen darf) kann und sollte den Veröffentlichungen von Martin Lee Stephenson zugehört werden. Während er mit David Salvi BLUE WATER SCHOOL ins Leben rief und "Physics" berechnende Soundscapes mit mystischen Samples und anstrengenden Loops belegte. ist sein neustes Projekt VULSE deutlich emotionaler ausgerichtet. Dennoch ist der teils minimalistisch sphärische und dann wiederum detaillierte "Dark Ambient mit NEoClassical-Einschlag" (wie mir das Info weismachen will) auch bei Zuhilfenahme von bewährten Stilmitteln seiten in der Lage, eine Aura wie beispielsweise BIOSPHERE zu erlangen.
